WATCH: Victor Wembanyama’s 1/1 Rookie Patch Autograph Finally Pulled From 2023 Topps Dynasty

The chase is over. During a 2023 Topps Dynasty five-case pick-your-player break on Friday night, Blez Baseball pulled the product hit from the set: the Victor Wembanyama 1/1 rookie patch autograph.

Go 19:30 in to watch the moment the Wemby 1/1 RPA was hit.

It’s the only Wembanyama RPA available. If you’re wondering why, it’s because the San Antonio Spurs young star doesn’t have any rookie autographs in Panini products due to his exclusive deal with Fanatics.

The patch used in the card is from a New York Yankees jersey he wore when he threw out the first pitch last season before a game at Yankee Stadium. Wemby also has dual-autograph patch cards with Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.

The reason Wemby drew an alien and a spaceship on the card is a nod to what future Hall of Famer LeBron James called the No. 1 overall pick prior to the 2023 NBA Draft.

”We’re labeling like this unicorn thing — everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years,” James told Sports Illustrated last year. “But he’s more like an alien — no one has seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is on the floor.”

Wembanyama immediately latched onto the nickname.

“First of all, I’m really glad he said that because I didn’t like to be called a unicorn,” said Wembanyama to Sports Illustrated. “I like it because it’s just something not from this world. I like being called an alien, yeah. It’s really what I’m working to be –something unique and original.”

Wembanyama cards have already sold for tens of thousands of dollars, including a 2022-23 Bowman University Best of ’22 Autographs Superfractor 1/1, inscribed “1st ever,” selling for $67,333 by Goldin Auctions last August. It’s the most expensive “pre-NBA” card ever sold.

On the memorabilia side, Wembanyama’s Spurs jersey he wore in his NBA debut game against the Dallas Mavericks sold for $762,000 in a Sotheby’s auction last November. It set the record for most expensive NBA debut jersey.

Wembanyama’s product hit from 2023 Panini Prizm has already been pulled — his Prizm True Black 1/1 that received a PSA 10 grade.

Wemby is having a fantastic rookie season, averaging 20.7 points and 10.3 rebounds a game. He is the favorite to capture the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.
