Georgia Man Leads Officers On High-Speed Chase After Stealing Mickey Mantle Card, Police Say

A Georgia man is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase after stealing a Mickey Mantle baseball card.

According to Coosa Valley News, Rome Police arrested 44-year-old Randy Wayne Cook following the pursuit that reached over 100 miles per hour.

Police initially clocked Cook driving 71 in a 45 mph zone before he sped away, causing the chase.

Coosa Valley News reports Cook ended up crashing his car. When officers arrived, they allegedly smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Cook.

Police say, after officers searched the car, they found the stolen Mantle card, along with a safe, jewelry, gift cards, a class ring, and over $1,500 in cash.

Cook has been charged with speeding, DUI, fleeing from police, among other related charges.

It’s not known which Mantle card was taken.
