Leaf Selling ‘Banned’ Joey Chestnut Auto Cards Following Controversy Over Hot Dog Eating Contest

Leaf Trading Cards is seeking to cash in on the Joey Chestnut controversy as the competitive eater won’t be allowed to compete at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on the Fourth of July. Leaf is now selling “Banned” Joey Chestnut autograph cards for $49.99 for a limited time.

“Leaf Trading Cards presents an exclusive autographed Card of a groundbreaking and controversial moment in the world of competitive eating: the 2024 Joey Chestnut card. This card captures the surprising and dramatic news that Joey Chestnut, the undisputed king of competitive eating, has been banned from the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. The reason? An unexpected partnership with a vegan wiener company,” writes Leaf.

Chestnut reportedly signed an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods, a vegan-based company, which is a competitor to Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. Since Chestnut has “chosen to represent a rival brand,” according to Major League Eating, he can’t participate in the hot dog eating contest where he is a 16-time champion.

“MLE and Nathan’s went to great lengths in recent months to accommodate Joey and his management team, agreeing to the appearance fee and allowing Joey to compete in a rival unbranded hot dog eating contest on Labor Day,” says Major League Eating in a statement. “For nearly two decades we have worked under the same basic hot dog exclusivity provisions. However, it seems that Joey and his managers have prioritized a new partnership with a different hot dog brand over our long-time friendship.”

Major League Eating says it’s devastating that Chestnut won’t be taking part in the annual July 4th tradition.

“Joey Chestnut is an American hero. We would love nothing more than to have him at Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, which he has dominated for years. We hope that he returns when he is not representing a rival brand,” adds Major League Eating.

Chesnut has yet to comment.

The Chestnut autographed Leaf cards are available until June 18 or when they are sold out. Leaf will begin shipping the cards two to three weeks after the final sale date.
