The item garnered nine bids before the auction ended Saturday evening.

Despite rupturing his Achilles tendon in the fourth-quarter of the April 12, 2013 game against the Golden State Warriors, Bryant still went to the free throw line after getting fouled on the play, and drilled both to tie up the game at 109. Bryant finished the game with 34 points, five rebounds and four assists in the Lakers’ 118-116 victory.

Bryant was 35 at the time of the grueling injury. He would come back the next season and end up playing six games.

“The offered jersey features all numbering and lettering in tackle twill and has been signed by Bryant. Bryant has penned his flowing signature in black marker on the ‘4’ of his iconic number ’24’ on the jersey’s front. An NBA Logoman patch rests on the jersey’s upper left chest, and a commemorative ‘JB’ patch for the passing of Lakers’ majority owner Jerry Buss earlier that season rests on the upper right chest,” Goldin writes in the description lot.

This is the fifth game-worn Bryant jersey that has topped $1 million. The others include:

  • Bryant’s autographed 1996-97 game-worn rookie No. 8 jersey selling for $3.69 million in May 2021
  • A separate Bryant game-worn rookie jersey (non-auto) selling for $2.73 million in June 2022
  • Signed Bryant 2007-08 game-worn jersey from MVP season fetching $5.84 million in February 2023
  • Game-worn 2009 NBA Finals jersey sold for $1.75 million in April 2024

The most expensive game-worn jersey belongs to Michael Jordan, whose 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 threads fetched $10.1 million at auction in September 2022.

Bryant tragically died in a helicopter crash in January 2020 at the age of 41. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others also lost their lives.
