Legendary Sports Artist Gary Longordo’s Once-In-A-Lifetime Collection Going To Auction

A once-in-a-lifetime collection is coming to the auction block. Renowned sports artist Gary Longordo is selling thousands of his original works of art and signed sports memorabilia. Auction Monthly will be holding the sale from May 5-12.

Longordo is an iconic sports and pop culture forensic artist who also created celebrity cakes at Apple Annie’s Bake Shop in North Carolina. His rare original artwork signed by Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Jim Brown, Muhammad Ali, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Sandy Koufax will be part of the auction.

“The highlights of this incredible collection are the hundreds of original Longordo paintings signed by many of the top professional athletes of all time. It is very rare to find so many high valued Hall of Fame signatures in a single collection,” writes Auction Monthly.

More than 2,000 lots will be available for sale.

On top of the sports collectibles, Longordo’s paintings of Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra will also be available for collectors to purchase.

“I was blessed to be able to do what I love to do for so many years,” says Longordo.

The auction comes nearly two years after Longordo revealed he has Alzheimer’s.

“I am not delusional or crazy. Yes, I might forget things and get confused sometimes, but I am still a human and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect,” Longordo wrote in a guest column for The News-Press in 2022. “Don’t assume things you might have seen or heard. This disease affects each of us differently, so just because you know someone who experienced certain things does not mean I will. A diagnosis doesn’t mean I will have to stop my daily routine or give up activities I enjoy immediately.”

The value of Longordo’s massive collection is estimated to be in the high six-figures.
