Collectors Are Shelling Out Thousands Of Dollars For Chairs Caitlin Clark Sat In

Would you spend thousands of dollars for a chair Caitlin Clark sat in? A handful of collectors did. Three game-used chairs the former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar sat in during the Big Ten Tournament sold for nearly $9,000 total in an auction through The Realest.

The most expensive one fetched $3,722. Clark sat in that chair during pre-game introductions.

“2024 TIAA B1G Basketball Tournament player bench folding chair used during the Women’s Basketball Tournament,” The Realest writes in the description lot. “Chair was sat in by Iowa WBB player #22 during pre-game introductions before the championship game. This chair was also used by the Fighting Illini during the ’24 TIAA B1G Mens Basketball Tournament Championship game on March 17th, 2024.”

Two other Clark game-used chairs sold for $2,750 and $2,505, respectively.

Sports business journalist Darren Rovell, founder of cllct.com, reports an authenticator from The Realest was sent to the tournament to monitor what chairs Clark sat in and how much time was left on the clock when she did.

This continues to show the effect Caitlin Clark has in the hobby world — and it doesn’t end there. Collectors are hoping to get their hands on a Clark game-worn jersey from her final collegiate season. Chase Jordan, known as @goatcollect on Twitter, is putting out a $150,000 bounty for one.

Not to be outdone, The Collectibles Guru is offering a $200,000 bounty for a Clark game-used Iowa jersey.

Clark already holds the claim for the most expensive women’s basketball card of all-time when her 2022 Bowman University Superfractor 1/1 autograph sold for $78,000 during an auction through PWCC Marketplace this past January.

Clark also has an exclusive deal with Panini that began at the beginning of April. Sportico reports Clark will make more than $1 million in the first year of the deal. However, future payments will be based on the amount of product Panini creates.

Clark is arguably the greatest women’s college basketball player of all-time, setting a litany of scoring records in her four seasons at Iowa. Her college career came to an end Sunday in the national championship game loss to South Carolina.

Clark’s next stop will be the WNBA where she will most likely be the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever.
